The Beginning of a 6 Days Tour - Day 1

Woohoo~ Day 1, here I come!

Map Of Selangor.

OK. The beginning of the journey started at 3.40pm for me. Everyone was supposed to arrive at 3pm, but having to attend class at the last minute that ended at 2.20pm and then go home to pick up my stuffs, and not to mention the rain that poured monkeys and elephants throughout the drive to the meeting point, it took a while for me and my parents to arrive at Skypark Terminal, Subang.

Skypark Subang, Information Counter.

The minute we arrived, Amelia (our "Mommy" for the tour) found me in front of Starbucks and I went in to join everybody else at Kapitan Kopitiam where everyone was gathered. There were food and drinks for everyone but I was too nervous and tired to grab a bite. I had managed to sleep only 2-3 hours the past few nights because of my assignments which I had to pass up before I join the tour. My professors were willing to let me off (including the next Monday and Tuesday) provided I pass all assignments and take quizzes before the rest of the class. Oh yes, very "helpful" of them. So, it seemed that at the starting point of the My Selangor Story tour, my battery has depleted to 50%.

After 10 minutes arriving in Kapitan Kopitiam and introducing myself to some of the other bloggers, Raja Sa'adi, the Head and PR & Marketing for Firefly stood up to give us a welcoming speech as well as giving us some input on Firefly's services.

Come fly with Firefly!

Now, did I mention that this My Selangor Story tour brings bloggers from three countries together - which are Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia? And who flies in the bloggers from outside Kuala Lumpur? Firefly of course! They also happen to be the Official Airline for this competition. A little sad I am staying in Selangor, if not I would be able to try their services and inform you guys how it's like myself.

Right after that, and a whole lot of photo-taking sessions (what you expect? LOL!), we were brought to our tour bus to go to our first destination - Carlton Holiday Hotel & Suites to check in and freshen up. We were paired up in buddy system and Jacquelyn was my room mate. Right after freshening up, we headed down the hall where we were all introduced to Mdm Rissa Chan, Executive Director of DSC World Sdn Bhd. DSC World Sdn Bhd is the company for Pentax cameras which is also the Official Camera used in this competition.

Pick your cameras kids!

After going through our cameras like jakuns (LOL!), we were then introduced to our Tourism Selangor's caretakers. After a lot more photo-taking sessions (oh yes, you are going to be shocked with all the photo binging in this competition), we got our itenerary and found out that we'll be going to the City of Digital Lights! The last time I went there was on my birthday in August but going here again will be so much fun. I am crazy for colorful lights. I used to LOVE going to Orchard Road, Singapore just because of the lights. Colorful lights turns me into a happy cheery 6-year old.

Right after hopping off the bus at i-City, we were brought over to EVENTS, where Mr. Eu Hong Chew, the CEO of i-City briefed us on the history, objectives and summary of the City of Digital Lights.

And then, it's EATING time! What better way to welcome us into this tour than a wide range of steamboat dish? Oh anybody but anybody who knows me knows I love Steamboat. Plus, we were served in the MIDDLE, surrounded by colorful lights. How can I NOT love this tour? And when other visitors walking by looking at our tables with a why-do-these-people-get-to-eat-here look, it is absolutely priceless. LOL!

 FOOD!! Yums!

While eating, I suddenly realize this beautiful moon up in the sky in between the beautiful lighted trees. What a night. Just the right weather and temperature.

Romantic, isn't it?

Right after eating, it's photo-taking time (again!). I've warned you, this tour is FILLED with photo-taking. I tagged along with Eyriqazz, Zaid and makcik Zara and explored the 4.5-acre park that is filled with state-of-the-art light display and sculptures. The lightscape in i-City features Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas themes. Not to mention, by the end of this year (possibly 25th December), more lights display and three more giant screens will be installed to accommodate the increasing number of visitors to i-City.

About two hours eating and photographing i-City, we hopped on the bus again to our next destination - Uptown Shah Alam.

Honestly, I've never been here. The only Uptown I frequented was Damansara Uptown back when it was super hype few years ago. Plus, I was staying in PJ at the time. Uptown Shah Alam is just a little further from my house.

Operation time : 8pm - 3am

We had a warm welcome by En. Aizul Hisham, the Managing Director of Dataran Usahawan Selangor Sdn Bhd (and his little girl) where he shared his recipe to being successful in business. We had some sandwich and cold drinks before we start walking around the bazaar. The types of shops here :

  1. Clothes for men and women.
  2. Accessories for men and women (i.e. shades, hats, necklaces, bracelets, etc).
  3. Collector's items (i.e. coins, dollars, party items, old firearms, antiques, etc).
  4. Food and beverages.
  5. Animals of all kinds and races (They have imported animals too).
  6. Property booths and car purchases booths.
And the best attraction of all at Uptown Shah Alam? None other than ----> Karaoke Session!

Azuan in ACTION!

Right after all the excitement (and my brain shutdown half hour before that), we were on our way back to the hotel. Our MSS Mommy handed us our P1 Wiggy, where P1 is our Official Broadband Provider. But I don't know why it can't connect to my laptop. After so many tries, I just took a quick hot shower and got ready for bed. By the time I settled in, it was nearly 2am. All I was thinking is that I just need to "reboot" my brain before I crash and hang. LOL. Nites all!

Day 1 is on 23rd of September, 2010.

P/S : This post is in conjunction with My Selangor Story contest - Day 1. Please vote for me here. Please do it daily. Thanks all!

Next Destination : SELANGOR

Selangor Darul Ehsan.

i-City, Shah Alam.

Truth be told, although I had been born in Johor, I have lived in Selangor for more than half my life. Yet, I have not explored all 7,956 km2 total area of this state. Now, I'm sure there are many ways to get to the nook and crook of Selangor and learn the hidden secrets of this state, but if we take a long time to do so, it will surely burn the fire down, right? However, learning and exploring this beautiful state is done together  with 29 other selected bloggers, I'm sure it would be an experience of a lifetime!

I am completely certain I should be that 1 person to complete the total to 30. And the reason I say this, among many others, is because :

  • My for blogging.

Writing is a passion long instilled in me,
Flair for expressions, what do you think?
Putting my thoughts to words so easily,
One blog post complete - just in a blink.

  • My with my digital camera.

Naught a care in the world, I snap here and there,
Getting the best photos and best angle are my main affair,
Every day is a new lesson, I shall declare,
With Photoshop at my side, I hereby swear.

  •  My with my video camera.

There are other things more interesting than still pictures,
A finite combination of movement, sounds and colours,
Seeing is believing, none can be deceiving,
Uploaded for the world to see, is a plus for me!

  • My in making friends with every one.

It brings a warm feeling when we get acquainted,
Sharing thoughts, ideas and views, nothing is tainted,
From the 7 continents they come, I welcome them all dearly,
A virtual handshake is offered, let's get online-friendly.

  • My for adventure.

My biggest love of all is my love for adventure,
A surprise or two along the way, a memory to capture,
Happy moments will always be kept and treasured,
To be opened in the future, bask in a joy unmeasured.

I just hope that I can be selected as one of the TOP 30 Bloggers for the MySelangorStory contest and travel within Selangor to explore the hidden treasures of this state as well as sharing it with everyone who visits my blog. It'll be a pleasure to do so as well as a way for me to add my knowledge on Selangor, the state I live in (sorry, I'm a knowledge-hunger girl). Please help VOTE for me you guys!

At the stroke of midnight..

A couple of days ago, I officially turned a year older. Yups, hopefully wiser too - in matters of the heart, of life, of the universe and everything in between - I wish.

At midnight, everything was great. My Twitter was flooded with Birthday wishes, so was my personal FB and my web FB. I received lots of calls from friends, handbag shops and jewelry shops to wish me a Happy Birthday. LOL! It was fun. And the best part, I get to stay out late for the day. Which is just fabulous considering my parents have this "curfew" for everything. Due to this, I just can't wait to earn my own living and be able to have my own say.

Anyways...

Daddy gave me a gift, in the form of cash, so there's not much to complain there. LOL.

However, I first planned to go to this Chocolate shop I saw from a friend's blog and when I went online, I saw that they had an outlet in Bangsar Village. Sad to say, I did not check it out thoroughly by calling to make sure they're there. I mean, I didn't expect the shop was no longer there. I just thought since there's an address online, it should be there and I don't have to call just to ask if it exists, right? *Sigh* Due to my careless assumption, I didn't get to indulge in some Chocolate-y moment that night. *Sob*

But then, my gray mood suddenly turned into a lot of colors - blue, red, green, yellow, white and so much more - instantaneously when we arrived at i-City, Shah Alam. You see, I have a thing for colorful lights. I get pretty excited when I see them. It's just the child in me, I suppose.

TEN (10) things I absolutely love :
  1. Colorful lights
  2. Bubbles
  3. Fireworks (the type they have during New Year's or National Day)
  4. Rainbows
  5. Smell of rain
  6. Walking in the rain (Only drizzle, not heavy rain. I don't want to get pneumonia)
  7. Smell of new-cut grass
  8. Smell of new books
  9. A garden of colorful flowers
  10. B-bunz (LOL!)

Aren't they gorgeous? Oh my, I'm like SO in love. And so excited. I nearly squealed. LOL!

Peek-a-boo!

We arrived at around 10.30pm. We paid RM10 in order to park inside. Because of that, we got a coupon which enables us to enter either the "Animal Park" area or the "Cold Room" area. We chose the animal place coz I saw this big dinosaur and I just wanted to go near the dinosaur. I don't have anything for dinosaurs, it's just that I'm not a fan of cold areas coz I get cold easily. Oh, and we also entered this lucky draw from the RM10 ticket.

Look at those photos yourself. Aren't the colorful lights just beautiful? OK, I'm using a cheap camera, not some heavy-duty DSLR so my photos don't really do the place justice. Seriously, I was so excited. And the place is pretty big. So even though there are many people, it don't feel so crowded. And it's so easy to get there - through the Federal Highway.

If only I could stay out late, I would've prefer to go there in the early morning because this place is open 24 hours, 7 days per week. There'll be lesser people and I'm sure the air is cooler. *Sigh*.. I want to come here again one day, just to walk around and not snap photos like a crazy woman so much. B-bunz must be tired waiting on this photo-crazed girl. LOL!! So, if you guys haven't been there before, do come by - that is, if you love lights but if you don't, it could be pretty boring since that's all there is there. Oh, but they also have some live performances until almost midnight. We didn't try the food from any of the restaurants there. We only get one Sweet Corn which costs RM4 which I bet the food in the restaurants must be pretty expensive. So, better bring your own food and picnic out on the field. Or if not, make sure you carry some drinks. Walking around can get you quite parched.
