HAPPY 2011 Everybody!

Photobucket

Woohooo!!

Wow, another year have whizzed by and I wonder where it had been. There are a few things that I had successfully done and some that I wished I had. But then again, there's no use to whine about time that has passed. We just have to work harder next time in order to achieve what we want, right?

Photobucket

I would love to wish everyone a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 and hope this will be a year filled with lots of LOVE, HAPPINESS and PROSPERITY!

The Season of the Witch is Here

"Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live," it says in the book of Exodus (xxii, 18). This and other Biblical admonitions and commands both defined the witch and prescribed his or her fate. A witch is someone in consort with Satan, the Evil One, the spirit who rebelled against God but whom God suffered to live.

Today, a typical general witch is portrayed as an old hag, wearing a pointed hat and flying on a broomstick across a full moon. Either that or you have the slightly modern witches wearing robes, a wand in one hand and chanting "Wingardium Leviosa" to levitate a feather. However, no matter how old-fashioned or modern a witch is to the general understanding, one thing is for sure, witches and their spells are something we normal folks can't counteract, which leaves us all pretty much at the mercy of witches all around the world.

Yeah, you've guessed it. Spells are the only thing that scares me when it comes to dealing with witches. (Assuming I would ever come across a lost witch and having to deal with her - in my lifetime). Witches and warlocks are the last things I would ever want to come across.

Don't believe me? OK, check out this video below and then TELL me you're not afraid of witches!

Even though I have listed the reasons I am afraid of witches, there is still one particular witch that I would like to go check out this season. And because this is The Season of The Witch, I hope I can count of Nicholas Cage to not let me be caught by a witch and eaten alive since I'm still *cough* very young *cough*.

Season of the witch

So, if you do not want to be hexed by a witch or get into witchcraft trouble, pack up your gear and get these ready :
  1. Earplugs so that you won't hear the spell they cast on you in order for it to work.
  2. Keep a bottle of salt nearby. Make a circle of salt and stay in the circle so that witches cannot come near you.
  3. Bury a knife under your doorstep to protect your home from witches, who supposedly can't pass over cold iron.
  4. Prevent a witch from making your milk cow dry by making a bell out of brass and hang it around the cow's neck because witches hate brass.
  5. If a witch infects you with a spell, drink water from a running creek for nine days straight using a cup made of cypress wood.
  6. Put a witch's nail or hair clippings in a small glass bottle. Burying the bottle will break the witch's spell.  Hanging the bottle in the fireplace will keep witches from flying into the room. Burning the bottle or if the bottle burst, then it means the witch is killed.
Alright, you're ready for some witch-action. But don't blame me if your finger rots off.

P/S : This post is for a contest entry by Nuffnang.

Marion Caunter and SM Nasarudin's Wedding Reception

Remember my last post that Marion Caunter and SM Nasarudin are no longer available? I wrote that Marion and Nasarudin is also having a private wedding reception at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur. Below are more photos of the reception.

Isn't Marion beautiful? I bet you would too if you're decked in gorgeous Vera Wang and lavish Cartier jewelries. *Queue song : I wanna marry a billionaire so effing bad..* LOL!

Marion Caunter and Vera Wang - Photo from Marion's Twitter.

The wedding was attended by famous people from Malaysia's own Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib, ex-Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir and a host of other cabinet ministers. Performances by Ning Baizura and Sean Ghazi among others, and other celebrity friends also attended the wedding which includes model and host Stephanie Chai, model Danielle Graham, Andy from the band Estranged and Marion's own sister, Stephanie.

The couple shared a compilation CD of all Marion's and Nasarudin's favourite songs as wedding favours instead of the regular chocolates and cards. Guests were also spoiled with chocolate bars and candies in the wedding reception. It was also at this event that Marion confessed to Nasarudin that he is her first love and only boyfriend.

And now, the latest wedding photo of Marion and Nasarudin at a reception in Maldives! OMG, me loves!

Well, congratulations again and good luck!

Christmas in 1 Utama

Festive seasons are something that makes me happy. Not so much of the holidays since holidays don't mean much to me, but it's because of the decorations. Lights always make me happy, if you must know. It's the first out of 10 things that makes me happy. And not to mention, the festive mood is pretty infectious too.

There's always fabulous decorations on Christmas, especially the ones at the malls. If only I have a better camera to capture the beauty of the lights...

Hey, you can even go up there and shop!

What do you guys think? Do you love Christmas decorations too?

I would like to take the opportunity here to wish all my readers a MERRY CHRISTMAS and have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Blue-ringed Octopus

Imagine this :

First you feel nauseous. Then, your vision becomes hazy. Within seconds you are blind. You lose your sense of touch, you cannot speak or swallow. Three minutes later you are paralyzed and unable to breathe.

All this because of a blue-ringed octopus, an animal a size of a golf ball that packs one of the most venomous venom on earth. There are at least 5 different species of this octopus and they can be found in tide pools of the Pacific Ocean, from Japan to Australia. Even though the size is small, it's poison can not only kill one human but 26 adult humans in a matter of minutes. The venom is 10,000 times more toxic than cyanide. To date, there is no antidote to this venom. The only treatment would be hours of heart massage and artificial respiration until the poison has worked its way out of the victim's system.

I first heard about this octopus when I was watching NCIS on TV the other day and thought it is amazing that a tiny little thing can kill so fast, even before you can make out what it really is.

The octopus will only show it's blue rings when it is about to attack. The poison contains in the saliva which comes from two glands that is as big as its brain - each. Poison from one of the gland is used on its main prey such as crabs, hermit crabs and shrimps where it is pretty harmless to humans while the other gland serves as defense from predators. The octopus either secretes the poison in the vicinity of its prey and wait until it is immobile before devouring it, or it jumps out and envelops the prey in its 8 tentacles and bites it.

Amazing, is it not, something so small can also turn into a killing machine in such short notice? Check out the video and learn more about this interesting creature.

Just be careful. Don't go and pick up something on the ocean floor just because it looks pretty!

P. Diddy & Usher

Honestly, after watching these two videos, I cannot decide which is funnier. I think both videos are, in it's tragic and embarrassing situation. I say tragic because I know it'll take a long time for the hair to grow back the way it used to. OK, I know it's not nice to laugh but I just can't help it.

Usher Kicked In Face at Concert

Which one is worse? Your hair caught on fire or being the only girl in the whole wide world who kicked Usher in the face? LOL!

Indian Cuisine | Vansh, Starhill Gallery, KL

Living in Malaysia amongst its multi-racial and multi-cultural people, there are many types of food and restaurant available. There's always the variety in choices and there's also that specialty of each restaurant which tantalizes my taste buds and can make me drool just by reading the description. Today, it is all about Indian food and let's see if this one particular restaurant in Starhill Gallery - VANSH - can deliver.

Vansh, Starhill Gallery

One of the things that I love about Indian food is the distinct spiciness which is very different compared to other spicy food that I can find. Briyani is one of the first things I would order at an Indian restaurant, along with Tandoori and maybe some Naan and Samosa. When Vansh prepared these (and many more), I was more than ready to try them out and see for myself if they're any better than how I usually get my Indian food.

I have to say that I am in love with the Lamb Briyani. The tender and juicy lamb hidden inside the Briyani is refreshing to my dry mouth. Not to mention that the portion is big enough for two! I also love the Samosa (vegetarian) due to the soft skin and not hard like the usual Samosa sold by the roadside stalls while the sauce was slightly sour, much to my liking. Not to forget, the Tandoori Lamb Chop (2 lamb chops marinated with spiced yogurt and roasted in the tandoor) just dance in my mouth and I managed to finish everything, right down to the last meat on the bones. I am not much of a lamb fan but that lamb was exceptional.

The Naan however, though it came in three variations, disappointed me. It tasted dry to my mouth and even the Butter Naan tasted plain to me. Although the Kashmiri Rogan Josh (lamb cubes simmered in a fennel scented yogurt gravy) looked beautiful but coupled with the Naan, it was still a disappointment. And then there was the Palak Paneer, at RM 28, it made a non-spinach fan like me look it in a different view altogether. Yums!

As the food kept coming, I managed to grab a little bit of this and that since I was afraid my stomach won't be able to handle the amount of food I am to ingest some more.

There was both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food served, maybe due to the fact that some Indians are also vegetarians for religious purposes. In my opinion, the Vegetarian Kebab Platter which features aloo mutter tikki, tandoori mushroom and tandoori paneer tikka is far better tasting than the Kebab Sampler Platter featuring malmali sheekh, murg malai tikka and tandoori tiger prawn. I say this because of  the stronger spicy and sour taste in the Vegetarian Platter in comparison to the bland taste and rough meat in the Sampler Platter.

Not long after that, I tried the Chilli Cheese Kulzza (fresh fluffy bread packed with mild yellow cheddar, piquant chilli and fresh coriander) and I just can't stop helping myself to a second and third piece. It is presented like a pizza and even though the chilli tastes weird when combined with coriander but I prefer it more than the Naan. I did not try the Honey Kulzza (RM 20) however because I do not like onion seeds and there were too much onion seeds on it for me to handle. The Lamb Vindaloo on the other hand, tastes pretty much like the Rogan Josh. I sort of wondered if I had tried the same thing but on the second try, I was right. There was nothing distinct about the vindaloo although the lamb was tender and the spices delicious.

Of course, nothing is better than ending an Indian meal with Masala Chai (tea) but I had to help myself with a few spoonfuls of sugar. I'm not so into the bitter cardamom taste though it is said to have medicinal values. I think the sugars I heaped into my cup neutralized the medicinal uses of the tea. LOL! And then, they served  us desserts - Khajoor Kulfi (homemade frosty flavoured with exotic dates) and Lychee Kulfi (homemade frosty flavoured with exotic lychees), something which I had never tried before. I absolutely love the Khajoor Kulfi. Dates never get out of fashion!

Although there are some food that went well with my taste buds but I think there are some too that requires a little bit of improvement. Dry or rough food in any restaurant is something not appreciated by the patrons. I'm sure everybody agrees with me when I say we'd love nothing more than to put something in our mouth and feel the taste and texture just blends together and make our tongue tingle with pleasure.

But don't just take my word for it! Try it yourself!

My Traffic Summons

When the news came out that there were 2 weeks for the Malaysians to get 50% off traffic summonses issued before December 2010, I didn't want to pass up the opportunity. I've got three summonses and each summon is RM300. I do not want to pay RM900 just like that! So, one day, I went to The Curve's Traffic Police Booth to make payment.

I hate waiting!

I was there at 1.45pm because it is said that the booth is opened at 2pm and already by the time I arrived, the queue was going so far outside of the lot. We waited and waited until 2.20pm until two policeman came and opened the booth. And then we had to wait another 20 minutes because the system was offline. Sigh.. I don't know how they handle this but this is not a very good job. Not only I was unable to pay my summonses online at either of the online websites (myeg, rilek and others) because the users online were too many at one time but making payments at the booth is also another hassle.

Snaking to the front

All in all, it took me TWO HOURS and TWENTY MINUTES to pay my summonses. I was ready to drop dead because there were no seats or whatever. We had to stand all the way.

All the way to the back

The funny part was, due to the long time queuing, we end up making new friends. LOL! The guys in front of me exchanged Facebook addresses, the woman in front of me told me all about her daughter and what they're doing now and best part is, I even found out the father of the guy behind me is a playboy and he found out he had half-sisters at his father's funeral! Wow, I really got the juicy dish on all these people - a bunch of people that I'm sure I wouldn't get to know or have anything to start a conversation with if we were thrown in another different scenario than paying summonses. LOL!!

But what sucks the most was, few days later, I read on Star Online that the Government decided to give 50% off summonses issued before December 2010 and it can be paid any time. Damn. If only I waited for another few days. I don't understand why our Government can't just make one good decision and stick to just that. Ugh!

Luckily I didn't have such a bad time queuing up to pay my summonses. You guys who were queuing in front and behind of me are hilarious!

My Selangor Story 2010 Winners Announcement

Right. This actually happened on 7th December 2010 but I just managed to haul my ass and write this post now because... Well, I was lazy. I had been lazy for a while now, sorry. I blame it on the time of the year. I just can't wait for 2010 to end.

The My Selangor Story (MSS) Winners Announcement was made at DELIcious @ Marc Residence, Jalan Pinang. I was a little confused with the other DELIcious because I've never been there before but later found my way to Marc Residence somewhat before 3.30pm. Lucky me coz no one wants to anger Amelia (our MSS Mommy) by being late, unless of course, if you're a VIP. LOL!

The winners were announced in not the conventional way. But just like all of us in MSS, the competition and participants are anything but conventional. The competition is the first ever made by Tourism Selangor or any Tourism Organisation in this country. So of course it is different and distinct in all competitions of this level.

Anyway, this was also the first time I met Eyriqazz's wife and daughter. His daughter, Alisya just loves to smile - what a cute little girl. And glad to have known his wife too. Of course, seeing old faces from the competition is also great, reminding me of the hectic time we experienced during the competition all over again. And well, without further delay, the 8 prizes goes to these fabulous individuals (in no particular order).

Like I said earlier, this was not the standard winner announcing type so there were some confusion between Thristhan and Dian. But all was settled when Thristhan got his 2nd runner up prize and Dian won her Grand Prize in the end. Oh, and YB Elizabeth Wong was there too to hand over the Grand Prize to it's winner.

YB Elizabeth Wong giving a little speech

As an end note, I wish MSS the best in it's future plans and hope that this will be one of a many great achievements in making Selangor a more popular tourism destination and also to educate the people on Selangor's beauty and treasures. No matter who won or did not win, there were some lessons that we've picked up from this competition, and not to mention, some very good friends too. Thank you MSS!

Anyone interested to join MSS 2011 should check out the website regularly for updates!

P/S : My tiny little camera only managed to capture four of the winners while it couldn't compete with the other monster cameras for the other three winners. My apologies. KK (kokd.blogspot.com) is in UK furthering his studies and was not there to take his prize personally.

Can you bring pet dogs into 1 Utama Shopping Centre?

This happened a few days ago when I went to 1 Utama Shopping Centre. I was sitting at one of the F&B outlets - Penang Flavours on the LG Floor, waiting for my take away food to be ready, my eyes watching every passerby in front of me and enjoying all the variety of motions when I saw something that froze me momentarily.

Why? Well...

In front of the restaurant I'm in is Little Taiwan and right in front of Little Taiwan is a life-size cardboard of Maria Tunku Sabri and right at her feet, this happened.

Yup. Believe it.

If Maria Tunku Sabri's cardboard can talk... LOL!

The owners, an elderly Chinese couple was walking the mixed Poodle-like dog with a leash and acted like they didn't notice the dog stopped there a moment to do it's business. OMG. Not only was I appalled at the mixed breed, half mongrel looking dog they allow to walk around and sniff at everything in 1 Utama Shopping Centre, it is the owners who acted like they didn't notice the dog peed there are making me more nauseous.

I am not writing this just because I am a Muslim and thinks one of the way to caution my other Muslims  friends who are planning to go to 1 Utama Shopping Mall from incidents such as these, but even if you are not a Muslim yourself, how would you feel if you walked to a restaurant and sat yourself at a table to eat which not a minute before, some dog had peed next to? Don't tell me you can eat in peace. Coz if you say you can, then why not sit next to a monsoon drain just for the fun of it.

I have no idea if 1 Utama Shopping Centre allows their patrons to bring their pet dogs in the Mall or not, but having seen this with my own eyes, I don't think this is very hygienic or appropriate. What if, in a stroke of bad luck, the dog peed on one of those fluffy pillows they sell at the small stalls and you were unlucky enough to buy it? Anything can happen. I know that 1 Utama Shopping Centre is a big shopping mall but that does not mean they can neglect the security issues.

Come on, pet owners should walk their pets outside of the mall if they think it's a good exercise. Let's leave the shopping to the humans, hmm?

So many shocking news

I was sifting through the web trying to find out the meaning of this dream I had been having when I came across a news about a woman's disfigured body found at Genting Highlands, nearby a Chinese Temple at Gohtong Jaya. Now, the only temple I can think about located at Gohtong Jaya is the Chin Swee Temple, of course, which I had been to only once in my life during the MySelangorStory tour.

It was creepy to read that the body, believed to have been a woman yet unrecognised because there is no identification documents with her or on her decapitated body. The woman's head and torso was found in a bag around 12.30pm near the temple whereas her limbs - left leg and right arm - were found at another location nearby. The other two limbs are left unfounded. The police believed that the woman is in her teens.

You may read about it here. It is in Bahasa Malaysia though.

Then, as I was browsing through the online news page again, I came across another news of a decomposed woman's body found in Kuala Selangor. This woman was believed to have died in about a week ago, based on her body's composition. However, her identity is unknown because there is no identity documents with her.

You may read about this news here.

Oh my, all these news of women being murdered and everything is really scaring me. Since I have to travel to class or work every day by myself, the thought of being anywhere close of such possible incidents is giving me the shivers. It is so unsafe these days, where people kill because of jealousy or just a simple misunderstanding. People don't seem to be afraid of the consequences of murdering. It seemed like the best resort is just to kill someone you hate or causing extreme harm to them as a way to satisfy your anger, greed or whatever other deadly sins.

For those who only seek a peaceful life, how shall we live?

Is it fair for us to live in fear most of the time because of the increasing number of psychos in this world? Should we start owning a gun just to feel safe? Is this what our lives will be from now on? Is this all that our future generation have in store?

Where is the humanity? Why has it come to this?

November 2010 Top FCC

Ouch. I haven't blogged for more than a week but there are so many I want to share with all of you. This is bad.. But my problem is, when I'm bitten by the lazy bug, I can just lie down for hours and not get bored. Sadly, I'll also be neglecting everything else. Opps..

Also, maybe I did not get my right amount of sugar this past few days. I am feeling all draggy and slow. Maybe it's the end of the year bug. Maybe I'll start being hyper again come January. Oh, talking about that, can you believe it's going to be 2011 already? Damn. Time is zooming past us all isn't it? Sometimes I don't think I can cope with all this rush here and there. My mind is telling me to but my body is not. *Sigh*

Oh yes, this is long overdue. I should've posted this the first day of the month. Sorry. But better late than never right? So, last month's Top First Commenter of the Commenter's Club goes to... *drumroll*
